Buffalo Junction sits on Kerr Lake — or Buggs Island Lake, if you ask anyone who's been coming here longer than the official name's existed. The Army Corps of Engineers built the dam in the early '50s strictly for flood control and hydropower, but somewhere along the way it turned into one of Virginia's favorite lakes to actually live on, not just visit.

Here's what got me about this one: it's not just waterfront, it's a point — over 1,000 feet of shoreline wrapping around you on almost every side. The house has that rare thing, a genuinely good Mid-Century Modern update: two primary suites facing the water, soaring ceilings over an open great room, oak floors, and a kitchen with a wine chiller and quartz island you'd actually want to cook in. Then there's the bonus nobody expects — a separate one-bedroom apartment with its own lakeside deck, and an oversized garage the listing calls a possible airplane hangar. No idea what you'd do with a hangar, but it's a fun option to have.

Occoneechee State Park is right there on the lake with 20 miles of trails if you want to hike, bike, or ride a horse for a change of pace, and the Army Corps' wildlife areas around Kerr Lake are worth a slow walk if birding is your thing.
